An upstate New York restaurant is facing backlash after it denied service to a blind woman who was with her service dog. Mary Beth Metzger attempted to dine at Hana Japanese Steak House in Albany on January 28, reports the Albany Times-Union, but the restaurant’s manager repeatedly told her “no dogs.”

Effective March 15, 2012, any gas pump where someone has to reach more than 54 inches above the ground to use it will be in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), putting the station owner at risk of fines or lawsuits. New Yorkers are now guaranteed the right to visit the restroom that matches their gender identity in all city buildings, after Mayor Bill de Blasio signed an executive order Monday. The new rule, which is now in effect, covers all bathrooms or locker rooms in city-government buildings, parks, and some museums.
