AIGA and D.O.T. Tactile Symbol Signs for Public Access Buildings

AIGA and U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Wayfinding Symbol Signs

Tactile Wayfinding and Room Identification Symbol Signs for Public Buildings, Venues and Spaces

This system of 50 symbol signs was produced through a collaboration between American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), they are an example of how public-minded designers can address a universal communication need. These internationally recognized symbol signs transcend language barriers. Used for marking building features and services, from restrooms to coat rooms and baggage claim area, from taxi and ground transportation to ticket offices and no littering signs. Our tactile (raised) version of these symbol signs help to make public access buildings, from offices to hotels, from airports to schools, more efficient, easier to navigate, and user friendly. Instantly recognizable and understood, these symbols convey the function of rooms or areas, such as smoking and non-smoking areas. Or the location of essential services, such as water fountains and fire extinguishers, restaurants and retail shops, bathrooms, stairs, escalators and more.
