Air Travelers With Disabilities To Get ‘Bill Of Rights’

While airports are subject to the Americans with Disabilities Act, air travel is governed by the often less familiar Air Carrier Access Act. The to-be-developed bill of rights requires that “plain language” be used to spell out the rights of passengers with disabilities, including receiving timely assistance and seating accommodations if requested. The law says airline employees and contractors must undergo training on the bill of rights.

Federal Appeals Court Rules In Favor Of Mainstreaming

I am tremendously proud of this contribution, and a little boy — now young man — named LH,” said the family’s attorney, Justin Gilbert. “The law of Tennessee, Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio will bear his name, reminding us all that kids with intellectual disabilities belong. They are to be included. And we are all the better for it.”

Disability Groups Line Up Against Trump Supreme Court Pick

“Our review of Judge Kavanaugh’s record indicates that his confirmation would place at risk access to health care and civil rights protections for people with disabilities, opportunities for people with disabilities to make choices about their own lives, and the ability of executive branch agencies to interpret and enforce the law,” the letter reads. “Because Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation would tip the balance of the Supreme Court toward such regressive views, we ask that you vote against his confirmation.”

The Wendrow family, pictured in 2011 in Wolvering Lake, Mich., was nearly destroyed when police and prosecutors went after parents Julian and Thal when their daughter with autism typed allegations of sexual abuse against them using facilitated communication. The parents were jailed and the children placed in foster care for months before police and prosecutors admitted she could not communicate at all.

This month marks the 50th anniversary of the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), the first federal law to address accessibility for people with disabilities. Passed unanimously by Congress in 1968, the law requires facilities funded by the federal government to be accessible.
